Using energy efficient lighting is the fastest and easiest way to cut energy costs at home and at work.
Simply replacing your traditional bulbs with ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) will save you $10 annually for each bulb you replace. But you don’t have to stop there.
Energy-efficient lighting technologies and products exist for nearly every residential and commercial application. For example, ENERGY STAR qualified light fixtures use a quarter of the energy of traditional lighting, come in hundreds of styles and deliver convenient features like dimming and motion sensors. Popular energy-efficient lighting fixture applications include valances, torchieres, suspended and recessed down lights, cabinet shelf lighting and ceiling fans with lights.
Light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, use light and energy even more efficiently than CFLs. ENERGY STAR qualified LEDs are durable, cool to the touch, last at least twice as long as CFLs and use up to half the amount of electricity of CFLs with equivalent brightness. LEDs work well for accent lighting, emergency lighting, task lighting, outdoor area lighting and holiday lighting.
