NYSERDA helps former sign Salesman Launch a New Business helping New Yorkers Save Energy

NYSERDA helps former sign salesman launch new business

Training New Yorkers to succeed in the clean energy economy is one of NYSERDA’s top priorities. A highly trained green workforce enables New York to achieve statewide goals of becoming more energy efficient, using clean renewable resources, saving money, creating jobs and cleaning up the environment.

Mark Bomba knows first-hand how NYSERDA and its training partners can open new career opportunities for New Yorkers. Formerly a salesman at a successful sign company, Mark was laid off as the company’s business slumped after the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Mark seized the opportunity to build on his educational background in engineering and go back to school at Hudson Valley Community College, one of New York’s energy efficiency and renewable energy training centers. With clean energy training and a stint as a top sales representative for Alteris Renewables under his belt, Mark applied his skills and experience to launching his own business. Today, Mark and his company Eco Sun & Power delivers sustainable energy solutions such as energy monitoring systems, solar electric systems, generators and lighting controls to residents and businesses. With support from NYSERDA, Eco Sun & Power is also helping to develop the infrastructure to sustain electric cars in New York.

If you are interested in working in the energy efficiency or renewable energy field, NYSERDA has partnered with dozens of training providers across the state that can help you get started. Training is being provided by local community colleges, unions, associations and technical high schools, as well as through approved Building Performance Institute (BPI) Test Centers, where you can take written and field tests to obtain BPI certification.
