In 2002, the Westchester County town of Greenburgh was the first town in the state to require that all new residential homes and townhouses be built to meet federal and state Energy Star requirements. Solar panels have been installed on Town Hall, using funds provided by NYSERDA, and an Energy Coordinator has been appointed to develop a strategy to reduce carbon emissions. Greenburgh is part of the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and is a member of ICLEI.
