Background

The City of Rochester has demonstrated support of environmental sustainability through its Resolution to Support of Environmental and Climate Protection Actions in 2009. The city aims to reduce the negative effects of petroleum use in transportation and move the community to alternative fuels and more energy efficient transportation.

Project Description

To accomplish its mission, Rochester will install 24 electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) sites at seven locations around the city. The proposed locations include four city-owned public parking garages, as well as City Hall, the port and the public market. The city will bid out the equipment procurement and the installation work.

Benefits

The project would increase the availability of EVSE to plug-in electric vehicle owners in New York State, and would decrease both petroleum use and emissions. The project will also provide needed data on municipal-owned EVSE and parking-facility applications.
