Session 1: Panel Presentation – A New Light on Today’s Energy Rating:

Our animated panel will report on the state of energy in New York, energy sources and how energy use affects the environment. We will also address low-income consumer’s energy burden. It's a fact that low-income consumers pay more of their income toward energy bills; we will examine how much more. The session will end with useful cost effective ways to help consumers save energy.

Session 2: Weatherization: The Jet Stream Shouldn’t Be in Your Home Rating:

Heard of a blower door test and wonder what that is? Want to refer a client for weatherization and not sure how to explain what to expect? Whether you are a seasoned weatherization professional or someone just starting out, this session will provide you with a hands-on look at the tools of the trade and information on the referral process.

Session 3: The Mystery Unraveled Rating:

Within the myriad of programs available to help low-income consumers, we’ll share three that you should have in your tool box. EPIC Outreach, WMS Installation, NYS OTDA.

Session 4: Regional Program Best Practices – Learn From the Experts Rating:

An in-depth presentation will highlight one local program’s creative approach to working with low income New Yorkers.

Session 5: Hypothetical Family – Meet the Coopers Rating:

Heat or eat. A choice no one should have to make. Join the group as we problem solve our way to helping the Cooper family struggle with limited resources to meet the challenge of paying for their energy bills and still have money to buy the necessities of life.

Session 6: LIFE, Sharing, Action… Rating:

An opportunity to practice the networking skills learned through out the day.

Batavia

The first of six meetings in the LIFE 2007 Regional Meeting Series was held in Batavia, New York on May 1, 2007. Seventy-four individuals attended this event. There was a 25% increase in attendance compared to the 2005 Regional Meeting held in Western New York. Pamela Carter, Chair of the LIFE Steering Committee, New York State Department of Public Service served as Mistress of Ceremonies. The Genesee County Office for the Aging served as local host and supported this meeting. Their warm welcome, well lighted meeting space and comfortable breakout space was acknowledged by Ms. Carter in her opening remarks.

Johnson City

The third in the LIFE 2007 Regional Meeting Series of six meetings was held at Traditions at the Glen, 4101 Watson Boulevard, Johnson City, New York on May 3, 2007. Eighty-five individuals attended this event. There was a 21% increase in attendance compared to the 2005 Regional Meeting held in Central New York. Pamela Carter, Chair of the LIFE Steering Committee, New York State Department of Public Service served as Mistress of Ceremonies. Prior to the event, there were two articles in local newspapers about the Regional meeting. The day of the event, Ms. Carter and several of the LIFE Regional Meeting presenters were interviewed by two local Television news stations.

Kingston

The fifth in the LIFE 2007 Regional Meeting Series of six meetings was held at Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation’s office located on 120 Route 28 Kingston, New York. Central Hudson served as the day’s local host. Eighty-nine individuals attended this event. There was a 29% increase in attendance compared to the 2005 Regional Meeting held in the Hudson Valley. Pamela Carter, Chair of the LIFE Steering Committee, New York State Department of Public Service served as Mistress of Ceremonies. Their warm welcome; large meeting room space, with thoughtfully arranged flowers on each table (door prizes); breakout room space and in particular the assistance of Central Hudson staff Kyro Ojulo, Anita Carfora and Sue Royce, was acknowledged by Ms. Carter in her opening remarks. Brian Dimisko, Manager, Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation, Honorable Cheryl A. Buley, Commissioner, NYS Public Service Commission, Honorable Maureen F. Harris, Commissioner, NYS Public Service Commission provided welcome remarks.

New York City

The sixth and last in the LIFE 2007 Regional Meeting Series was held in New York City, New York on May 15, 2007 at The Graduate Center, CUNY, located at 34th and 5th Avenue in Manhattan. One hundred and one individuals attended this regional meeting. There was a 60% increase in attendance compared to the 2005 Regional Meeting held in New York City. The local host for this event was Bronx Community College, who arranged for space. Pamela Carter, Chair of the LIFE Steering Committee, New York State Department of Public Service served as Mistress of Ceremonies. Acknowledgement was given to Tria Case and Jill Cotter for their dedication and support in the production of the New York City LIFE Regional Meeting. Howard Apsan, PhD., University Director, Environmental Health and Safety, CUNY, Honorable Robert E. Curry, Jr., Commissioner, NYS Public Service Commission gave welcome remarks.

Queensbury

The fourth in the LIFE 2007 Regional Meeting Series was held at the Ramada Inn Glens Falls, 1 Abby Lane, Queensbury, New York on May 9, 2007. Seventy-one individuals attended this event. There was a 13% increase in attendance compared to the 2005 Regional Meeting held in the Capital Area. Pamela Carter, Chair of the LIFE Steering Committee, New York State Department of Public Service served as Mistress of Ceremonies. Sandra S. Sloane, Director, Office of Consumer Services, NYS Department of Public Service and the Honorable Patricia L. Acampora, Chairwoman, New York State Public Service Commission gave welcome remarks.

Watertown

Forty-four individuals attended this event. There was a 13% increase in attendance compared to the 2005 Regional Meeting held in the North Country.
