Development of New York State Greenhouse Gas Abatement Cost Curves
Climate stabilization likely will require emissions reductions in many sectors. The set of strategies that could be adopted to achieve the required reductions will depend on the costs, technology availability, and policy. Several studies have assessed the cost and availability of different emission-reduction opportunities at the national level, but not specifically geared to New York State's unique economy and ecosystems.
This project will assess the availability, cost, and potential GHG mitigation benefits from a wide range of current, emerging, and potential technologies across several sectors within the state. For each sector, the project will identify technologies with the potential to reduce GHG emissions, determine the cost and performance of these technologies, and analyze the cost and amount of reduced emissions for each technology option.
This NYS-specific analysis will help identify cost-effective emission-reduction strategies to inform policy decisions and the subsequent evaluation of adopted policies.
