COMMERCIALIZATION OF SILICON-BASED ANODES FOR LITHIUM-ION ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS(26292)

Background

B.E.S.S. Technologies designs high-performance components for lithium-ion battery manufacturers. B.E.S.S. Technologies’ first product is a silicon-based nanoengineered anode design with demonstrated energy capacities greater than three times that of graphite and dramatically reduced capacity degradation, currently showing 80% capacity retention over more than 300 charge/discharge cycles. These anodes are compatible with industry-standard cathode materials and could displace graphite anodes in high-performance lithium-ion batteries, capturing a market projected to be $750 Million by 2015.

Project Description

This project will complete four activities which will prepare them for the commercialization of the anode: protection of intellectual property through patent applications; creation of financials; re-development of the company business plan; and development of alliances to access new markets.

Benefits

The total Li-ion battery market is expected to be $140 Billion by 2030 with a compound annual growth rate of 14% (2015 to 2030). If 10% of this market is captured, 1.5% growth to the State’s annual GDP would be realized. Based on this, B.E.S.S. Technologies anticipates the addition of numerous clean-energy manufacturing jobs to New York.
