Research Project Summary Information

Smartphone application for building operators to store boiler performance parameters (25521)

Emergent Properties

Background

Emergent Properties is working on developing a mobile application that allows building operators to input boiler performance parameters into their phones or ipods. The app will graphically display the data to help identify a trend or reveal operational anomalies. The current version of this app was introduced to multifamily housing and several NYS universty campuses (SUNY Albany, Columbia, NYC, and Pratt Institute). Property operations with a large number of buildings and a variety of HVAC technologies would benefit from such an app, which can be rapidly deployed in all buildings through the operator's smart phone or ipod, without the installation of new infrastructure.

Project Description

Emergent Properties will conduct 20-40 field demonstrations to support product development of their application, which will include installing the application onto the boiler operator's smartphone or ipod. Once installed, there will be two or three month demonstration periods, during which the boiler operators will provide Emergent Properties with feedback in order to identify issues, improvements, and benefits of the current application.

Benefits

Emergent Properties is a New York based company. The application will support optimum operation of the equipment and promote lower energy use.
