Background

Seaside Plaza is a 256 unit, 238,600-square-foot multifamily apartment complex that consumes 1,980 MWhr of electricity per year, and 16,000 MMBtu of natural gas per year. Steam for space heating and domestic hot water is provided by a central boiler plant. Each of the two buildings in the complex is master metered for electricity. There is no central cooling plant.

Project Description

A combined heat and power (CHP) system, consisting of a 100 kW Tecogen InVerde 100 reciprocating internal combustion engine, will be installed and integrated into the existing electric and domestic hot water systems.

Benefits

The CHP system is expected to produce 700 MWhr of electricity and 6,000 MMBtu of thermal energy for heating domestic hot water per year. The CHP system is expected to have a 90% annual overall fuel utilization.
