WindoTherm Interior Clear Insulating Panel(ST9972-1)

Windo-Therm, LLC

WindoTherm manufactures a clear insulating panel that can reduce the heat loss through an existing window. WindoTherm's product can also significantly reduce the infiltration losses through a window frame. WindoTherm's product is an approved measure for several energy efficiency programs in New York and Massachusetts. WindoTherm assembles its retrofit kits in Hoosick Falls and ships them throughout the U.S., and to international customers. WindoTherm believes that in order to achieve a higher level of market penetration, it needs to improve its product in several key areas. WindoTherm believes these improvements would speed production, reduce costs, and expand distribution to wider markets.

Project Description

The Contractor (WindoTherm) shall improve design of its clear window insulating panel (CWIP). The design of the frame rails and connectors shall be strengthened. The method for attaching the clear plastic film to the frame shall be improved. New materials shall be researched for the clear film to improve product performance (e.g., U-value, UV protection, and solar heat gain coefficient) and durability (e.g., impact resistance). Independent testing will give the end product credibility in the marketplace. The Contractor shall also develop new educational and marketing materials.

The addition of a WindoTherm panel to a single-glazed window has been shown to increase its R-value by a factor of three. WindoTherm believes that improving its product will result in sales that increase its number of employees
