Internet Tools for Designing Green Buildings(ST7521-1)
BuildingGreen, Inc. was founded in 1992 to provide accurate and unbiased information to the building community about environmentally-preferred technologies. The company is well-known for the quality of its products, including Environmental Building News, a monthly periodical, as well as GreenSpec, an environmentally-preferred product directory. BuildingGreen has also developed the Green Building Advisor, a software product that identifies strategies for reducing the environmental impact of buildings. Recently, BuildingGreen launched a new Internet service called Premium Web Content (PWC). For an annual fee, this services provides online access to the current issue of Environmental Building News and GreenSpec.
BuildingGreen will add the following five features to PWC: an archive of past Environmental Building News issues; a database of high-performance building case studies; an online version of the Green Building Advisor strategies database; a user forum; and an automated system for managing user account information. The company will also develop and implement a publicity/marketing campaign for PWC.
As currently envisioned, use of PWC during a building's design could result in energy savings of 20% or more. Its use will also result in reduced water consumption, improved indoor air quality and reduced solid waste.
Launched as BuildingGreen Suite, the expanded service added features including the following: an archive of past Environmental Building News issues; a database of high-performance building case studies; and Green Building Advisor, a software tool used to identify environmentally-preferred design strategies for a building. The service also includes a user forum; a reference library; and an automated system for managing user-account information. The project further involved promotion of the BuildingGreen Suite.
BuildingGreen distributed 200 free licenses for BuildingGreen Suite, as well as gave 40% discounts on 236 paid licenses to New York State users for the product. BuildingGreen will continue to provide free and discounted licenses to the product for another four years.
