The goal of this project was to provide equity funding to JRS Technology Associates (JRS) to provide JRS with flexible support to develop a range of energy efficient lighting products.

Project Description

A full light ouput ballast with a high power factor and low harmonic distortion to operate 32, 25 and 17W T8 lamps and U-bend lamps was successfully developed. Also developed were a standard fluorescent dimming, a fluorescent dimming plus and a network-controlled, fluorescent-dimming rapid-start T8 ballast that operates with the same lamps. Additionally, ultra-efficient, electronic, sub-miniature dimming ballasts for fluorescent lighting in the power range of 13-32W and high power electronic dimming ballasts in the power range of 60-200W were developed.


The thousands of ballasts that were installed at various sites across the country will provide savings and ease of control over lighting needs to users over a ten-year period.

Project Results

The contractor successfully designed and demonstrated a spectrum of superior electronic ballasts and remote control systems. However, the contractor's relatively new entrance into a highly competitive industry made it very difficult to attract the capital to fully commercialize product lines. The orders that were filled were done so on a small, custom-order basis, and the contractor is currently unable to capitalize its long-term manufacturing operations.
