Ecology & Environment, Inc.

Ecology and Environment, Inc. (E&E) develops software and telecommunications technology that improve the operating efficiency and quality of paratransit and related flexible transportation systems. Project Description

The specific goal of the subject project was to develop and implement the new product in cooperation with a regional transportation government organization, with the overall objective to commercialize the new system by leveraging existing client relationships with transit agencies and other organizations in New York State. The deliverable product is “GreenRide Flex-T,” a web-based enhanced version of E&E’s GreenRide® rideshare software system. The enhanced version offers individual users and vehicle operators a variety of key functions including reservations, scheduling, dispatching, and reporting.

This project led to a decrease of private automobile trips and an increase of public transit, resulting in energy and environmental benefits. Economic benefits developed in the form of more cost-effective transportation systems along with increased sales of the E&E’s software and technical support services. In addition, for many disabled, elderly, and people with limited means the new product improved mobility and gave the ability to attain a higher quality of life.

Project Results

The project is complete and the Final Report has recently been accepted. A Presentation of Final Results was conducted at NYSERDA and attended by staff from the NYS Department of Transportation, the Capital District Transportation Authority, and several regional transportation providers. Additional interest has been expressed by staff from NYSARC; a voluntary organization of fifty-five chapters consisting of parents, friends, and volunteers serving thousands of New York residents with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.
