Develop Green Hot Air Wall Panel(16024)

Rigidized Metals Corporation

Rigidized® Metals Corporation, established in 1940, develops and produces deep-textured, three dimensional metals for use in architectural, industrial, and transportation projects. Over the last five years Rigidized® has acquired and developed the production capabilities for the creation of interior and exterior wall paneling systems. Examples of past applications and installations include elevator cabs, industrial flooring, kitchen backsplashes, vehicular tread plating, and restroom partitions. Rigidized’s textured finishes have the potential to act as an enhanced heat transfer surface. Rigidized believes these surface could be used in the design of a thermal, hot air wall panel. This product concept could introduce a new building-integrated solar technology to the marketplace.

Project Description

An indoor testing stand would be fabricated. Prototypes would undergo in-house testing and independent laboratory testing. Structural analysis of the new wall panel would be completed to determine it meets building code requirements. Outdoor testing would be completed by the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC). Marketing materials for the new product would be prepared.

The Green Hot Air Wall Panel would preheat ventilation air and recover building envelope losses in the heating season and direct heat away from the building in the cooling season. Rigidized wall cladding and paneling systems are made from recycled materials (approximately 60% recycled content in stainless steel products and an even higher recycled content in aluminum products). Metrics could be based on jobs, total sales and energy savings in New York State.
