Mohawk Innovative Technology, Inc. (MiTi) is a high-tech company that has developed a prototype energy-efficient, 100 HP oil-free electrically driven blower. Blowers are a platform technology crucial to many industrial processes, such as wastewater treatment, paper drying, pharmaceuticals, beverage bottling and food processing. The estimated worldwide market for 100 to 600 HP blowers with output pressures below 20 psig, is approximately $1.2 billion annually.

Project Description

This feasibility study is directed at developing a commercialization strategy and business plan to bring the oil-free blower to market. The objective is to assess the market to verify the selected entry-level blower size and product family; identify the best distribution method and approach to marketing/selling the product; and establish a draft business plan to execute the selected strategy.


The project will benefit New York State industrial and municipality users through significantly reduced operating and maintenance costs. Operating costs reductions are estimated at 50%. Savings in electricity costs approaching $70,000 or 600 MWH per machine per year for 100 HP blowers are possible. Other benefits include a reduction of environmental hazards, lower noise, smaller size, lower weight and no waste disposal costs due to elimination of the oil-lubrication system. New York will benefit, because new high technology manufacturing jobs will be created and CO2 emissions lowered due to lower energy usage.
