Project Description

This contractor won a competitive bid under program opportunity notice 1686 for solar system incentives for commercial projects in New York State. Project implementation required the contractor to meet Federal reporting and U.S. Department of Labor wage guidelines for all projects.

Benefits

Provided solar electric system incentives for large system sizes not offered by other NYSERDA programs. Competitive bidding process dropped average system incentive below current NYSERDA solar incentive. Tioga Energy introduced a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model for sale of solar power to customer. PPA models are just starting to gain acceptance in New York and open up markets for larger commercial installations of PVs.

Project Results

Tioga Energy Inc. completed two commercial PV installations (850kW) in Long Island in a timely and professional manner. Tioga Energy used PPA contracts in such a way that the customers did not need to own the solar electric system, but paid a reduced rate for renewable electricity.
