Verdant Power Raises Funds, Receives FERC License

Verdant Power - New York, NY

July 02, 2012

Verdant Power was established in 2000 and is based in New York, NY. Verdant’s Free Flow Kinetic Hydropower System uses three-bladed, horizontal-axis turbines deployed underwater to generate clean renewable energy from tidal and river currents. The system does not require dams or other major civil works, and does not redirect the natural flow of the water.

Two active projects include the Roosevelt Island Tidal Energy (RITE) project and the Cornwall Ontario River Energy (CORE) Project. RITE in the East River of New York City is entering phase 3 with a MW-scale build-out. This project received the first-ever commercial license for tidal power in the United States by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in 2012. The company recently raised $575,000 and continues to pursue additional investment.
