Combined Heat and Power Program

Incentives of up to $2.5 million are available for the installation of combined heat and power (CHP) systems in New York State. Customers can choose between prepackaged CHP systems up to 3 MW, or custom-engineered systems greater than 1 MW.

CHP systems recover the heat created during power generation and use it as an energy source. That energy can then fuel industrial processes, heat domestic hot water, and provide space heating and cooling. CHP systems are generally designed to run daily to save energy and money, and to run during grid outages to power the site’s priority loads.

Who Can Apply

Typical CHP customers include industrial, commercial, institutional, and multifamily facilities. To be eligible, the installation site must pay the System Benefits Charge (SBC) surcharge on its electric bill.

How to Apply

Complete program details, including how to apply for financial assistance, are available in the CHP Program Funding Opportunity. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis until December 30, 2018 or until funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.

Vendors interested in becoming pre-approved and submitting prepackaged CHP systems for inclusion in the CHP System Catalog should see the CHP Program System Qualifications.
