Experienced Government Leader Will Drive Strategic Direction, Operational Advancements and Performance Management

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has named David Margalit to the position of chief operating officer. The members of NYSERDA’s Board approved Mr. Margalit’s appointment today.
Mr. Margalit, a former senior advisor in the Office of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, will be responsible for driving a strategic approach to NYSERDA’s operations to optimize effectiveness and market responsiveness, and to lead performance improvement throughout the organization as NYSERDA seeks to scale up the State’s clean energy economy.

His expertise and leadership in building results-oriented organizations will be extremely valuable to the Authority as it looks to become even more impactful and responsive to market developments,” said John B. Rhodes, President and CEO, NYSERDA. “David’s leadership will be critical in supporting Governor Cuomo’s initiatives that expand the State’s clean energy sector and provide a cleaner, more affordable and more resilient energy system for all New Yorkers.”
Mr. Margalit joins NYSERDA with experience in managing strategy, multidisciplinary teams and technology to transform and build service-focused organizations. As senior advisor, he led the City of New York’s efforts to improve customer service and online services for businesses. As deputy commissioner of the City’s Department of Small Business Services, he led the development and delivery of a suite of services to help businesses start and expand, drove a turnaround of the City’s job and training services, and instituted improvements to customer service across multiple City agencies.
Prior to his position in the Office of the Mayor, Mr. Margalit was vice president of services at Accela Inc., where he grew the company’s ability to implement technology that automates government services. Additionally, he worked at Oracle Corporation and has served as an adjunct professor at the Wagner School of Public Policy at New York University.
Mr. Margalit received his B.S. from the University of Delaware, where he was a Eugene DuPont Distinguished Scholar, and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
