NYSERDA recognizes NYS Energy Audits for its dedication to providing low-income families with no-cost energy-efficiency solutions

Brooklyn — The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has once again named NYS Energy Audits of Brooklyn Contractor of the Year for EmPower New York, a program that offers energy-efficiency improvements to income-eligible homeowners and renters.
“This is the second year in a row that NYSERDA has honored NYS Energy Audits for its commitment to helping those in need save money and reduce their energy usage,” said John B. Rhodes, President and CEO, NYSERDA. “EmPower New York underscores Governor Cuomo’s commitment to helping improve the lives of low-income families through homes that are more energy efficient, comfortable, healthier and safer.”
NYS Energy Audits received top honors as Contractor of the Year for consummate professionalism, application of new skills acquired during training and continued outreach that has enabled the company to serve more than 500 clients during 2013. Project Coordinator Yury Polonsky recently accepted the award on behalf of the organization.
“We’re thrilled to receive the EmPower New York Contractor of the Year Award again, and we wish to thank everyone for their ongoing support,” said Polonsky. “We plan to continue our hard work to advance the mission of EmPower New York, which brings the benefits of improved home energy efficiency, comfort, health and safety to low-income families in our community.”
As a full-service energy solutions company, NYS Energy Audits employs a team of energy specialists who use state-of-the-art equipment to perform home energy assessments throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Once areas of concern in the home are identified, specialists recommend effective remedies and options, as well as offer customers additional strategies for managing their energy costs.
More than 150 contractors participate in the EmPower New York program. In addition to Contractor of the Year, NYSERDA recognizes other contractors for their participation in the program. NYSERDA staff determines award winners based on quality assurance inspections, work turn-around time, production levels and overall responsiveness and compliance with the program. EmPower New York services are free to income-eligible households and anyone eligible for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), which serves those earning 60 percent of the state median household income). EmPower New York services include installation of high-efficiency lighting and replacement of inefficient refrigerators and freezers with new ENERGY STAR® certified models; heating efficiency services, such as insulation and air sealing; and health and safety testing to ensure the home is properly ventilated and combustion gases are not escaping into the living space.
