Brewery is lauded for fostering the economy and protecting the environment through energy efficiency
June 17, 2013
Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) has announced that Anheuser-Busch’s Baldwinsville brewery will be recognized as the “New York State Business Leader Champion for Energy Efficiency” at the Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit in Springfield, Mass. on June 18-19, 2013. Nominated by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the company is being honored for its continued efforts to advance energy efficiency at its Baldwinsville, N.Y., brewery, resulting in annual energy savings of 9.3 million kilowatt hours (kWh).
The Northeast Business Leaders for Energy Efficiency recognition program highlights the accomplishments of organizations that are participating in energy efficiency programs across the region. Anheuser-Busch was selected for recognition based on its success to:
- Achieve energy savings through investment in cost-efficient measures.
- Address comprehensive changes in major energy systems such as lighting, HVAC, building envelope, office equipment and industrial processes, with a focus on improvements in multiple fuel categories.
- Continue improvements in energy performance through management-level support and operational practices.
- Demonstrate leadership to advance energy efficiency and to promote its benefits within its communities.
The Anheuser-Busch project involved the installation of a 24-ounce can bottling line in Baldwinsville, N.Y.
“This investment not only expands our production, it enhances the long-term position of the Baldwinsville brewery, our more than 400 employees, and our many local partners and suppliers,” said Nick Mills, general manager of the Anheuser-Busch Baldwinsville brewery.”
With the company's energy savings, the firm expects to recoup its investment in 10 years. NYSERDA provided funding toward the cost of this project through its Industrial and Process Efficiency Program (IPE). IPE's goal is to help manufacturers and data centers increase product output and data processing as efficiently as possible. Therefore, incentives are calculated, when appropriate, based on a reduction in energy usage per unit of production or workload. For information about NYSERDA’s IPE program, visit nyserda.ny.gov/ipe.
“NYSERDA congratulates Anheuser-Busch on its well-deserved recognition and its commitment to reducing energy use in its manufacturing process,” said Francis J. Murray Jr., President and CEO, NYSERDA. “Energy efficiency projects can assist companies in reducing their production costs while increasing savings, benefitting the bottom line. Through investments like the Anheuser-Busch project, the State, under Governor Cuomo, is helping New York businesses remain competitive in the global market.”
“NEEP is proud to recognize Anheuser-Busch for their success and commitment to energy efficiency,” said Sue Coakley, Executive Director of NEEP. “Anheuser-Busch Inc. provides an excellent example of how energy-efficient measures can improve a company’s bottom line, contribute to economic growth and reduce environmental impact.”
