Cleaner, Greener Communities Program
The New York Cleaner, Greener Communities Program empowers regions to create more sustainable communities by funding smart growth practices.
To prepare for future emergencies and severe weather events, New York State is implementing a 21st century fuel infrastructure protection strategy from the pipeline to the pump. As a crucial step, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law the strongest protections in the nation to ensure that critical gas stations have back-up power capacity, making it possible to avoid long lines, get to work, and restore normalcy as quickly as possible after a major storm or other disaster. Fuel NY includes the following:
- Gas Station Back-Up Power Program
Developed as a direct response to Superstorm Sandy as a part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's "Fuel NY" initiative. It includes the nation’s strongest back-up power requirements for gas stations in strategic locations to ensure that New Yorkers have access to gasoline in a severe storm or other major weather event.
- Portable Emergency Generator Program
Developed as a direct response to Superstorm Sandy as a part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's "Fuel NY initiative. It includes the nation's strongest back-up power requirements for gas station in strategic locations to ensure that New Yorkers have access to gasoline in a severe storm or other major weather event. This program will provide participating Stations with portable emergency generators and associated services during a declared energy or fuel supply emergency.
Green Jobs - Green New York
Green Jobs - Green New York is a statewide program to promote energy efficiency and the installation of clean technologies to reduce energy costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
NY - Battery and Energy Storage Technology (NY-BEST™) Consortium
The NY Best Consortium (NY-BEST) is a not-for-profit, market-driven consortium established in 2009-10 with NYSERDA seed funding and includes over 120 startup and established companies, utilities, end users, and research institutions working to build the energy storage sector in New York State.
NY Green Bank
NY Green Bank is a state-sponsored investment fund dedicated to overcoming current obstacles in clean energy financing markets and increasing overall capital availability through various forms of financial support such as credit enhancement, project aggregation, and securitization.
NYS Smart Grid Consortium
The New York State Smart Grid Consortium was founded in 2008 when leaders determined that meaningful progress required the inclusion of all stakeholders to define and work toward a common vision. The Consortium represents a key public-private partnership to promote broad statewide implementation of the smart grid.
The NY-Sun Initiative is a $1 billion investment to significantly expand deployment of solar capacity throughout the state while transforming New York’s solar industry to a sustainable, subsidy-free sector over time. In addition to the NY-Sun Incentive Program, the NY-Sun Initiative also includes training for installers and public officials, standardized permitting, customer aggregation, consumer education, and systems development. On-Bill Recovery Financing Program

Renewable Heat NY
Helping New York State residents, businesses, and municipalities use local wood for heat in a cleaner way, made possible by recent improvements in wood heat technology. Through education, customer incentives and infrastructure development, New York State is helping the high-efficiency, low-emission wood heating industry reach scale. Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS)
A Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) is a policy that seeks to increase the proportion of renewable electricity used by retail customers.
Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI)
The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is an agreement among nine Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic States (Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
