NYSERDA participates with other agencies and authorities to deliver initiatives from the Governor's Office including:

Cleaner, Greener Communities Program

The New York Cleaner, Greener Communities Program empowers regions to create more sustainable communities by funding smart growth practices.

Fuel NY

Fuel NYTo prepare for future emergencies and severe weather events, New York State is implementing a 21st century fuel infrastructure protection strategy from the pipeline to the pump. As a crucial step, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law the strongest protections in the nation to ensure that critical gas stations have back-up power capacity, making it possible to avoid long lines, get to work, and restore normalcy as quickly as possible after a major storm or other disaster. Fuel NY includes the following:

  • Gas Station Back-Up Power Program
    The Gas Station Back-Up Power Program was developed as a direct response to Superstorm Sandy as a part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's "Fuel NY" initiative. It includes the nation’s strongest back-up power requirements for gas stations in strategic locations to ensure that New Yorkers have access to gasoline in a severe storm or other major weather event.
  • Portable Emergency Generator Program
    Portable Emergency Generator Program was developed as a direct response to Superstorm Sandy as a part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's "Fuel NY initiative. It includes the nation's strongest back-up power requirements for gas station in strategic locations to ensure that New Yorkers have access to gasoline in a severe storm or other major weather event. This program will provide participating Stations with portable emergency generators and associated services during a declared energy or fuel supply emergency.

Green Jobs - Green New York

Green Jobs - Green New York is a statewide program to promote energy efficiency and the installation of clean technologies to reduce energy costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

NY - Battery and Energy Storage Technology (NY-BEST™) Consortium

The NY Best Consortium (NY-BEST) is a not-for-profit, market-driven consortium established in 2009-10 with NYSERDA seed funding and includes over 120 startup and established companies, utilities, end users, and research institutions working to build the energy storage sector in New York State.

NY Green Bank

NY Green BankLink opens in new window - close new window to return to this page. is a state-sponsored investment fund dedicated to overcoming current obstacles in clean energy financing markets and increasing overall capital availability through various forms of financial support such as credit enhancement, project aggregation, and securitization.

NYS Smart Grid Consortium

The New York State Smart Grid ConsortiumLink opens in new window - close new window to return to this page. was founded in 2008 when leaders determined that meaningful progress required the inclusion of all stakeholders to define and work toward a common vision. The Consortium represents a key public-private partnership to promote broad statewide implementation of the smart grid.

NY-Sun Initiative

The NY-Sun Initiative brings together and expands existing programs administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), and the New York Power Authority (NYPA), to ensure a coordinated, well-funded solar energy expansion plan. The NY-Sun Initiative includes:

  • NY-Sun Solar PV Competitive Program (for systems larger than 200kW)
    Complete proposals that demonstrate project viability and capability will be competitively selected based on their incentive bid in dollars per kilowatt hour ($/kWh). All Projects must be installed within eight (8) months of the award date. For more information, see NY-Sun Solar PV Competitive Program.
  • NY-Sun Solar PV Incentive Program (for systems up to 200kW)
    A 7 kW PV system located on a south-facing roof can typically offset 70-80% of a home’s electricity needs. When combined with improving energy efficiency, the savings on your electric bill can be even more significant. For more information, see NY-Sun Solar PV Incentive Program details.

On-Bill Recovery Financing Program

On-Bill Recovery Financing Program allows energy efficiency improvements to be repaid through energy savings on the customer’s electric and gas utility bill. For more information, go to nyserda.ny.gov/on-bill.

Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS)

A Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) is a policy that seeks to increase the proportion of renewable electricity used by retail customers.

Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI)

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is an agreement among nine Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic States (Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
