Chief Operating Officer for NYSERDA
David Margalit was appointed chief operating officer of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) on March 7, 2014. He is responsible for driving a strategic approach to NYSERDA’s programs and operations that optimizes effectiveness, responds to the needs of customers and the market, and enables performance improvements throughout NYSERDA as it seeks to scale up the State’s clean energy economy. NYSERDA is a public benefit corporation that advances innovative energy solutions to improve New York State’s economy and environment.
Throughout his career, Mr. Margalit has developed and managed strategy, systems, technology, and teams that have transformed and built service-focused organizations, both in business and government. As a senior advisor in the Office of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, he led New York City’s efforts to improve customer service, simplify regulations, and build online services for businesses. As deputy commissioner for the New York City Department of Small Business Services, he led the development and delivery of a suite of services to help businesses start and expand, drove a turnaround of the City’s job centers and training services, and instituted improvements to customer service across multiple City agencies.
Mr. Margalit has also held positions at Accela Inc., where as vice president of services he grew the company’s ability to implement technology that automates government services, and at Oracle Corporation. In addition, he served as an adjunct professor at the Wagner School of Public Policy at New York University.
Mr. Margalit holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Delaware, where he was a Eugene DuPont Distinguished Scholar, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.
