Senior Desktop Operations Administrator – Albany Office (#258)

NYSERDA seeks a qualified and highly motivated individual to join its Information Technology team as a Senior Desktop Operations Administrator. The technician will act as a leader in a team responsible for the organization’s technical support and the help desk, and is responsible for delivering high quality service and consultation to a wide variety of users. The successful candidate will blend a strong technical acumen with the ability to communicate effectively to users with a diverse skill set, while building positive relationships across NYSERDA. Occasional travel within NYS is required.

The Senior Desktop Support Administrator’s primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Manage the activities of help desk technicians and ensure timely resolution at a very high service level
  • Provide level 1 help desk support
  • Serve as a level 2 escalation point for desktop support staff
  • Improve processes performed by the desktop operations unit
  • Automate repetitive desktop tasks through scripting (.bat, .vbs and PowerShell)
  • Assure that desktop hardware is under support or retired in a timely fashion
  • Assure that the NYSERDA asset inventory system is maintained and kept current
  • Assure that capacity planning is done periodically to meet current & future business needs
  • Assure adherence to NYS desktop requirements such as encryption
  • Schedule & handle off-hours support and outages
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages and/or emails regarding IT problems
  • Operate tools, components and peripheral accessories
  • Manage multiple projects and timelines
  • Unbox, inventory, configure and deploy new hardware
  • Assure the proper disposal of retired IT assets
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, networked peripheral devices and networking hardware products
  • Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis and resolution of complex desktop problems for a variety of end users and recommend and implement corrective hardware solutions, including warranty repair as needed
  • Communicate software and hardware problems and issues to software development and support teams as well as end users
  • Occasionally travel to various sites (Albany, NYC, West Valley, Buffalo)
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Minimum educational requirements an individual must possess include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related degree and 5 years of relevant experience as described above, or
  • An unrelated Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of relevant experience as described above, or
  • An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related degree and 7 years of relevant experience as described above

Preference will be given to those individuals who also possess the following:

  • A strong technical knowledge of Windows Automation (VB Script, PowerShell)
  • A strong technical knowledge of Windows 7 and Windows 8 Operating System families
  • A strong technical knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2003+, Active Directory, Windows networking (DHCP, DNS)
  • A working knowledge of VoIP and video/telephony protocols and systems
